Incredible write-up of an unbelievable night. Are you wearing SmartWool under your race suit?
Ya know Garett……….. I really wish I would have. I totally underestimated how cold I would get. I really thought the output would keep me warm, and that on the climbs I would warm up if I did get cold. I was wrong… I needed a thin layering system beneath the suit.

This is the best race report I’ve ever read!!! Great job … Tata!!!
Right On Dan! Sounds like an amazing experience…..Great write up! I hope to do get back there again someday. Sounds like a great event! Things coming to a close here at the Ski Mountaineering World Champs and the Italians swept the field today in the relays!
ciao
Awesome race write up Dan, you have such a gift for expressing the pain, agony, and sheer joy of these kinds of things, and life in Italy in general. I loved, ” Every gram that I have saved at the cost of many hundreds of Euros and Janine’s dismay,” cracks me up. The significant others, they just don’t understand our mistress. GEAR!
Very cool, rando racing is catching on slowly, but it’s for mountain people, of which Italy/Austria/Switzerland in full of, but not America. Sigh!
Thank you Dan for being my partner at the race and for this wonderful report!
Ciao …
Werner, Sono freddo ancora.
Great job Dan! You are so impressive. Your friends are learning that you are not only an excellent athlete and photographer, but a wonderful writer too. Keep up the good work.
Nice write up, Dan. Both your spirit and love for what you do show brightly through your words.
