New Year Mountain Sport Survey

Greetings All,

Happy Old & New Year to everyone who regularly checks in and for those just stopping by.

2009 has been an incredible year for both PatitucciPhoto and DolomiteSport; loads of fun, great new & longtime friends, and prosperous work. To say we are grateful is certainly an understatement. 2010 is looking to continue the trend of good times.

As we have developed quite a following, and influenced ideas for mountain sports travel, we would like to do a survey and formally ask what you would like to see from us. Also, tell us who you are, what you do, and where you want to go. You can do this in the Comments box below.

In some ways it is a New Years Resolution, throw it out there and make it come true. And, it will help us to understand who is visiting our site.

For 2010, we are committed to getting more voices involved in DolomiteSport. We want stories from your life as a mountain sport athlete. If you are interested, please let us know. And from us… we have some personal projects in the works that will put us on assignment for ourselves. Projects that I believe will be interesting and inspiring.

Again, thanks to everyone who visits, we know there are a lot of people out there, please help us come to know who you are. Now, go visit that Comments box below. Go on.

Happy New Year,

Dan & Janine Patitucci

  1. Okay, we’ll go first, our plans and our dreams:
    1. Alaskan ski touring for the Alaska Huts Association
    2. Nepal trekking with Janine
    3. Norway skiing with friends
    4. Croatia Mountain Biking
    5. The Bugaboos with Alberto de Giuli

  2. Snorkeling in warm water and swimming with dolphins. 2010 could be the year to squeeze in a different trip then the usual.

    1. Linda Emerson says:

You might consider Tonga, one for the few places in the world where you can swim/snorkel with Humpback Whales. Or, closer to home, the Gulf Coast of Florida, where you can swim/snorkel with manatees.

  3. Igor says:

So my plans and dreams are:

1.) Climbing the big wall on the house mountain (Sas dla Crusc – Dolomites)
2.) Trekking on the Na Pali coast (Kauai)
3.) RAAM (Race Across America) (by bike)
4.) Dolomites – Bejing (by bike)

    and some season related:

5.) Powder skiing wherever there is powder ;-)

I live in the Ariege area of the French Pyrenees and am aspiring to complete a fell/mountain/trail ultra distance event this year. Would love to read more on mountain trail running on dolomitesport.com to inspire me, please!

I will also be doing the Trans-Ariege VTT (mountain bike) route in April and look to your site for inspiration for that and other long distance MTB goals too.

Lastly, I am also a road biker and newby at ski de rando/ski touring and will be watching those sections of your site with great interest over the coming months!

    Keep up the good work!

  5. Jim Moody says:

    1 – Maratona dles Dolomites 2010!
    2 – Maratona dles Dolomites 2010!
    3 – Maratona dles Dolomites 2010!
4 – Find the perfect multi-adventure-sport town in South America. San Martin de los Andes? Suggestions ?

  6. Jonathan says:

I’m a 35 year old father, designer, arm chair adventure warrior, and San Franciscan. I road ride, cyclocross race, and find out-of-the-way local adventures for my little family.

I love experiencing what you do through your blog, but the mortgage and four year old cuts into our “Hey, let’s do the Laugavegur Tour this weekend.” ability.

This year we’re going to cross-country ski in Yosemite, teach my son to alpine ski at Sugar Bowl, ride our bikes a lot, be outside every weekend, and save up for randonee equipment for next year.

Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m taking notes.

    1. Chris Pemberton says:

Jonathan – I live over in the East Bay and do a lot of the same sports and similar constraints – give a shout if you want to hit the trail for a ride or run

      Cheers,
      Chris

  7. Linda Emerson says:

    1. Climb Mt. Kenya and see the wildlife of Kenya and Tanzania
    2. Visit Colombia
    3. Horseback riding in Mongolia
    4. Trekking in Ladakh
    5. Mountaineering in the incomparable Sierra Nevada
    6. Kayaking on the Owyhee River

  8. Chris says:

    OK, mine is:
    1) Help Patsy finish PA school
    2) Take Charlie out skiing more
    3) Ski in BC’s Coast Range this spring
    4) Climb the Evolution Traverse
    5) Run/fastpack the John Muir Trail

  9. snowsnorkeler says:

Not as easy as it sounds! A sample, at least:

    - Descent of Mt Alpenglow’s NW bowl over Turnagain Arm, Alaska, during a bore tide event, preferably with ‘bergs in the ocean.
    - Ski in the Bella Coola region.
    - Tour from the highway between the Cassiar Hwy and Hyder AK.
    - Climb- or even get to see- The Devil’s Thumb in the Stikine Icecap.
    - Learn to surf, and not be a gaper and swallow half the wave.
    - Do another descent of Fish’s Breath in powder conditions.

    Whoa! that’s a lot… I better get busy already!

  10. Chris Pemberton says:

I’ll put my larger goal for 2010 of focusing on only a handful of projects into practice. You seemed to ask 2 questions – what are we, your reader’s doing and what do we want to see?

    - 5 day mini-epic mountain bike adventure on the Colorado trail with friends.
    - Maybe a Marin Headlands self supported ultra marathon/ adventure race
    - And something else as yet to be determined…

And what to see from Dolomitesport.com? Keep doing what you’re doing which is inspire mountain adventure. I saw a picture of Ama Dablam in Nepal on Greg Mortensen’s kitchen counter a few years back and was climbing the mountain a year later – that picture helped inspire my mountain adventure – if yours do the same for your readers – that’s pretty powerful..

  11. tite says:

…Like IGOR (3rd comment) for the dreams. As for more realistic plans:
    - share with more and more trail runners my YOGA FOR RUNNERS program
    - train well for all mountain and marathon races of the year
    - run a better CCC-Ultra Trail Mont Blanc teaming up with someone who aims at 22 hrs or lower.
    - run a better( longer, 90k) Lavaredo Ultra Trail
    - pass the next level as teacher of Iyengar Yoga
    - See Lance climbing up in a hard stage of the Tour
    - get well acquainted with high altitude (4 a long term, 2011 plan)
    - have my 2 boys finish school well (no “materie a Settembre”, please)
    - be a better sailer on Aug’s 33ft. boat.
    - be a better bike-rider, so as to deserve a real bike ( and leave the heavy one I got with the points earned at the gas station 10years ago, a green one you see up and down the road to Cortina)
… and this is enough for this year, NAMASTE’

  12. tite says:

    …….wait, there’s more:
    - run a good Boston Marathon, to celebrate my birthday
    - write a book (shhhh, a secret)

  13. tite says:

    …last, but not least:
    - be back on my ice-skates and jump an Axel like 30 years ago.

  14. karin pizzinini says:

take great … take incredible photos
    travel a lot
    find out WHO I am
go climbing a lot and do great things being in perfect shape

    1. Karin, those are my exact thoughts. But, adding in sci alpinismo, biking and trail running.
